Joan and I are planning to take our kayaks down to southern Florida in January. We've kayaked in the spring-fed rivers in the central part of the state - the Myakka, Sulfur Springs, Alexander & Juniper Springs, and a few others, but we've never been farther south than the Myakka. Has anyone had experience in the Everglades? Can you recommend a place (motel or B&B) to establish as a base for five or six days? We're not planning to camp or do any major expeditions; just day trips from the base. Any recommendations regarding books, outfitters, etc.?
